What is Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) has been proven the most effective and practical martial art in the world. Commonly referred to as 'the game of human chess', it is a constantly evolving, modern form of self defense, focused largely on grappling and ground fighting.
When utilized correctly, the techniques exploit leverage, control, distance, and timing to obtain dominance on the ground and provide a greater position to resolve conflict by use of submission holds. It instills confidence in those that practice it regularly and allows for a smaller person to remain safe, in control and dominant during an altercation against a much larger opponent.
BJJ was introduced to the world by the Gracie family upon the creation of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Over the next few decades interest in BJJ steadily grew as it became the fastest growing sport and martial art in the world.
While BJJ will always have its roots in self defense and combat, the sport slowly evolved away from its traditional background with the introduction of an ever growing arsenal of positions, submissions, and transitions which allow for a bottomless depth of exploration, creativity and self-expression.

For some Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a pastime and for others it is a lifestyle; supporting a foundation of good health, diet, discipline, and character development. We believe that anyone who walks through the door of the right academy will see the merit in Jiu-Jitsu and want to train the rest of their lives.

In class you are not only getting in great shape and learning to defend yourself, but you are also among friends - no big egos, no need to 'prove yourself' to fit in. The way we run our club is truly something unique.
It's going to be safe
We believe you can train martial arts without being constantly injured. We run our club professionally and coach our members to train safely and respectfully. While we encourage competitiveness, there is a zero tolerance policy towards reckless sparring.
